  • Allegro Quilt

I am working on an Allegro quilt designed by Terry Atkinson of Atkinson Designs.  It is a traditional block quilt but sometimes the different directions of the material for each block can become confusing.  I’ve now gotten all the blocks on the design wall and the blocks arranged the way that I want them.  Now….I just have to sew the blocks together.  I started this portion of the project this weekend and now I have a row where one of the blocks within the row isn’t going in the right direction….I will have to re-sew that block or perhaps another block got mixed up.  How could that happen?

  • A Great Visit to the Quilt Show

The Quilt Festival is here!  I’m putting on my comfortable shoes and getting ready for all the excitement.  I’m very methodical about my approach….I start on one side and go up and down each and every row….trying to make note of anything that I might want to come back to and take a second look.  I attended Preview Night and was most impressed that there were many new kits and notions to ponder.  I purchased a miniature quilt kit “Lancaster Country Quilt” and a civil war kit “Salute To Our Veterans” --  both purchased from Schoolhouse Quilts. The kits were different than any I had seen before and therefore caught my eye.  I also purchased a small iron manufactured by Bohin.  It was so cute and would be great to have right next to the sewing machine to press those seams right away.  I also noticed that some vendors that had always been there in the past were not present.  I spent three hours there and my feet were very tired….of course, I purchased my kits early on in the evening so I had to carry them around the hall the rest of the evening.  There were so many new items that I returned on Saturday evening.  It turned out that it was a great time to go.  The crowd had dwindled and I could take my time while looking.  I took stock of what I needed before I went back to the quilt show and decided that I needed more quilting thread and bobbins.  I own a Janome Quilting Companion and wanted specific bobbins for my machine.  I went to the Janome booth and they didn’t bring any accessories with them to the quilt show.  How strange….if you purchased a new sewing machine during the quilt show you wouldn’t be able to also purchase additional accessories…seems like Janome is missing additional revenue by not stocking these types of notions.  Anyway, I found the bobbins at the same booth that I purchased the miniature iron at and they seem to work fine.  I also wanted Mettler thread which you’d assume that buying thread at the quilt show would be a breeze…not exactly.  There were so many different types of embroidery thread but no Mettler quilting thread.  I went to the information booth and they searched their database of vendors that carried Mettler thread and gave me the booth number.  I went to that particular booth and they had the thread that I wanted.  Yeah!  I then went home and lovingly unwrapped my purchases, found a special place for each item and I can’t wait till next year!

  • The International Quilt Festival.....the wait continues.....

The International Quilt Festival is almost here…only 3 more days.  I bought my tickets on-line because it is so much quicker to get into the door and start shopping for quilts and quilting supplies.  Each year I’m always surprised at the different ways that quilting can be used as an art form. I love the Civil War era quilts. The attention to detail is fabulous.  These quilts seem to be very functional and appropriate for the time period.  I’m not into the beading on quilts but find it interesting to view on other people’s quilts.  The miniature quilts always catch my eye…as if the size means less work J.  I think that I’d be able to take the quilting pieces with me and do a little quilting while I’m waiting at the doctor’s office or waiting on someone to show a house.  Maybe a miniature quilt kit will be my new purchase this year….

  • International Quilt Festival

The International Quilt Festival is almost here!  The show dates this year are Oct. 15 – 18 at the George R. Brown Convention Center.  Every year I look forward to this event!  The festival is so overwhelming that I have to set priorities.  I plot and plan what I can spend and what I will buy this year.  I try to pick out one quilt kit and then some quilting notions that I just can’t live without for another year. …not that I can’t buy them at my favorite quilting stores throughout the year…it is just more fun to fill up my bag at the quilt show.   Why only one quilt kit a year?  My intention was to make at least one quilt per year…however, my stack of kits becomes higher because I’ve not been able to meet that goal…or…I begin a kit I just purchased!  Maybe I won’t see a quilt that I can’t live without this year…doubtful!  See you there J
